Development of the design of the State Chancellery's informative website for COVID-19
In less than 2 weeks, develop the official portal that informs Latvian residents about the current events of Covid-19 in Latvia and the world.
In order to launch the page in an absolutely unprecedented deadline, all possible human resources were mobilized on the iConcept side. Twelve people worked in three shifts, sharing responsibilities both in stages and replacing each other in moments when "it's just not possible anymore".
The main objective was to bridge the gap between official statements and the public. Therefore, it was intuitively and immediately decided that the strategy would be based on user-centric content and structure. Starting with the fact that everything on the website should be found quickly and ending with the fact that the information is explained in easy language. There is no bureaucratic complexity and nothing superfluous.
Another challenge is that information is constantly changing, moreover, as the situation developed, it was clear that priorities would also change. For example, at the beginning it was important to explain the repatriation process, but there was a deadline. Therefore, we jointly agreed on two things with the State Chancellery. First of all, the website will be able to find "basic needs" information, but then it will lead to the pages of the relevant authorities. Secondly, it will be possible to rearrange the sequence of informative blocks. Thus, when there is, for example, a major change in the education system, it will be noticeable immediately upon entering the site.
This foundation, upon which the whole project rested, was created at a wild speed. Here we should thank the fact that not only our team, but also the State Chancellery's team was ready to respond and approve our ideas 24 hours a day.
The page has an integration with data.gov.lv, which reflects all current data on Covid-19 in Latvia and integration with the open data portal on Covid-19 data in the world. The affordable and convenient Drupal was used for the solution.
